The Marti Huizenga Roll Up Your Sleeves Award was established in 2009 at the official
opening of the JA World Huizenga Center at Broward College. This award has been
given to individuals who have gone above and beyond to help Junior Achievement of
South Florida achieve its mission. It was named in honor of Marti Huizenga – a
philanthropist, a change agent, a visionary, and a volunteer – who was a strong
supporter of the vision to bring a world-class JA facility to South Florida.

Kids In Distress serves more than 10,000 children and families each year on its 5-acre campus in Wilton Manors, FL. Featuring 10 treatment and intervention buildings, it also is home to the 5-star rated KID Preschool. Every day, the preschool hosts dozens of toddlers that learn, thrive, and play within its classrooms and recreation area. Recently, Sonitrol Security Solutions donated expertise and advanced technology to link the campus’ existing security cameras and intercoms with the new, state-of-the-art access control equipment for the Preschool’s gates. The staff in the KID main office now can see and speak with anyone who seeks Preschool access at gates on either side of the property. Finally, we also donated more than 100 electronically coded key fobs, which allow pre-approved parents and guardians to enter.
The Habitat for Humanity Broward Re-Store is a discount retail improvement outlet located at 505 West Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. Their busy showroom is a place where shoppers find reusable and surplus building materials, furniture, and appliances that have been donated and are available at a fraction of their original price. Businesses and individuals provide the inventory, through tax-deductible donations of furniture and home items as well as business furnishings. In an effort to support such a worthy cause, we donated a digital camera system with remote-viewing capability, a state-of-the-art verified intrusion detection system, and fire system maintenance and monitoring services.
John Ray, III, our president and CEO, recently served as the Event Chair for the third annual St. Thomas Aquinas High School Sporting Clays Tournament at Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee, FL. John is a St. Thomas Aquinas High School alumnus and has three daughters who also attended the college-preparatory secondary school.
