Junior Achievement of South Florida, Inc. today announced that John Ray, III, president of Sonitrol of Fort Lauderdale, has been appointed to the organization’s board of directors.
Melissa Aiello, President of Junior Achievement of South Florida, said, “As a successful, high-energy entrepreneur, John brings our organization experience, leadership and community contacts. He’ll help us ensure that every child in South Florida has a fundamental understanding of the Free Enterprise System.”
Ray began his career in the electronic security industry with Sensormatic in 1990. In 2001, he purchased the Sonitrol of Fort Lauderdale franchise and has built the business to become the fastest growing of Sonitrol’s independent Florida dealerships. Along with this accomplishment, Sonitrol of Ft. Lauderdale was named the national company’s Franchise of the Year in 2007.
Ray earned his BA and MBA degrees from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss.
He is a licensed electrical alarm contractor for the State of Florida and is active in the Alarm Association of Florida, the American Society of Industrial Security, and the Florida Crime Prevention Association. He is regional director for the Sonitrol National Dealers Association (SNDA). He was a founding member of the Safe at Work initiative sponsored by then-State Attorney General Charlie Crist.
Active in the community, Ray is past president and a current board member of the Executives’ Association of Fort Lauderdale. He also serves as an officer and board member for the St. Thomas Aquinas Alumni Association. Ray and his Sonitrol team actively support Junior Achievement of South Florida and Habitat for Humanity.
